This summer, IEEE BRAC University Student Branch organized its first flagship program which is an intra university project competition called TournaTech2019 which took place on 25th July 2019 at BRAC University Auditorium. The event consisted of a project competition, poster competition and problem-based idea competition. The project competition focused on hardware and software-based projects made by students, the poster competition focused on technical research posters made by students on various CSE and EEE based topics and finally the problem based idea competition challenged the students to solve a real life problem using technological ideas. The competition was open for all Brac University students. There were a total of 13 teams under project showcasing, 6 teams under poster competition and 7 teams under problem based idea competition.There was a total of 75 participants altogether.

The sign-in for the teams started at 8:30 am. The teams reported at the booth and started setting up their projects and posters inside the auditorium.

Project showcasing was scheduled to be from 10:30 am to 12 30 pm. At 10:05 am pro Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, Dr. Mohammad Tamim, along with the chair

of CSE department, Dr. Md Abdul Mottalib together with Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam, Dr.Jia Uddin from CSE department and Dr. Md. Mosaddequr Rahman from EEE department arrived and cut a ribbon at the entrance as a token of a new beginning. Then Dr. Mohammad Tamim gave a speech motivating the students by telling them about the changes brought into the world by technology and what technical support will be needed in future. After the encouraging speech, the respected faculties and Dr. Tamim went around the tables where each team showcased their hardware/ software projects. The judges for this session was Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam, Dr. Jia Uddin and Dr. Md. Ashraful Alam and from CSE department and Dr. Md. Mosaddequr Rahman and Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj and from EEE department . This segment was also covered by the reporter of BBC Bangla. There was a short break from 1 pm to 2 pm.

At 2 pm the poster competition began. The teams of the poster competition displayed and explained their poster to the judges. In this segment the judges were Samiul Islam, Rubayat Ahmed Khan and Mr. Mohshi Masnad from CSE department and Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj, Mr. Supriyo Shafkat Ahmed and Ms. Farzana Shabnam from the EEE department.

After the poster competition, the Problem based Idea competition began. Participants presented their write-ups or printed technical solutions to the problems and presented it using PowerPoint presentation or just by explaining their topic to the judges. In this segment, the judges were Arif Shakil from CSE department and Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj, Dr. A. S. Nazmul Huda and Mr. Supriyo Shafkat Ahmed from EEE department . The participants presented and answered questions asked by the judges based on their presentation. There was a short break of 30 mins after that.

After that, at 5:15 pm Dr. Md Abdul Mottalib, Dr. Md. Mosaddequr Rahman,Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam, Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj , Supriyo Shafkat Ahmed,Mr. Annajiat Alim Rasel and Mr. Arif Shakil sir were called up on stage and each of them shred their experience from the day and shared a few motivational words with us , they suggested improvements and advised the participants on their projects , poster and idea fields and also motivated the organizers to carry on with events as such. Then there was the prize giving ceremony, 1st (6000 taka), 2nd(4000 taka) and 3rd prize(3000 taka) for project Competition. 1st(3000 taka) and 2nd(2000 taka) prize for poster competition and 1st(3000 taka) and 2nd(2000 taka) prize for Problem based Idea conception.

The first flagship program of IEEE BRAC University Student Branch wrapped up with a group photo of winners of all 3 segments and the faculty members and then a group photo of ambassadors and IEEE executive body members with the faculties . It was a huge success for the student branch and it looks forward to better and bigger versions of TournaTech in the coming years .
