IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) is a prodigious society of IEEE that empowers young learners, students and expert practitioners to broaden their depth of knowledge in the field of Aerospace and Large Scale Integrated Electronic &Embedded System Design. IEEE AESS unleashes its members to adhere to a global network that constantly studies and discusses space, air, ocean and the trending technologies in hardware and software developments. This society is apt to nurture and support future engineering mindsets through recurring publications, conferences, on-stage seminars, technical panels, distinguished lectures, outcome-based courses and other technical activities that can bolster towards catering its ultimate goals. For the first time ever in Bangladesh, with the journey of IEEE AESS in Brac Universityduring2020 amidst the global pandemic crisis, the chapter has achieved remarkable and phenomenal accomplishments within a short span of time. Ananna Hossain(ExChair), Sajid Hossain(ExVice-Chair), Ihtyaz Kader Tasawar (ExSecretary) and Tahmid Ahmed (ExTreasurer) on being elected to the executive body panel of this chapter, paved the way to a new silver lining with their endowment, dedication and hard work. The respected chapter advisor Abdulla Hil Kafi, the pioneer of the first nanosatellite BRAC Onnesha, has shown his utter brilliance in guiding and motivating the EB panel and chapter members to work unitedly and passionately towards achieving a significant mark.
The National CanSat Competition and Satellite Expedition Contest are two of the most riveting venture and are deemed as the benchmark competitions of IEEE BRACUAESS SB Chapter. Both of these two ventures have been appeared to be the countryside of most prestigious events. For the second time, National CanSat Competition2020was organized virtually in collaboration with the Laboratory of Space System Engineering & Technology (LaSSET) and in partnership with UNICEF Bangladesh and UNICEF Global. The National CanSat Competition 2020was full of exuberance for young enthusiasts as it was a gateway for them to showcase their latent talent and discover their inner potentials. The competition challenged the participators to show their precious skills in creating a 3D prototype of small-scale satellites mostly known as CanSat. For this competition, Raihana Shams Islam Antara and Md MojammelHaque Shourobh were the honourable judges. Undergraduate students from all over the country participated in this competition that made it a success. Prior to the competition, a valuable workshop was also organized by IEEE BRACU AESS SBC to provide the participants with a very basic and groundbreaking idea on these CanSat.The workshop was instructed by respected Abdulla Hil Kafi and Raihana Shams IslamAntara, both of them were the pioneer ofBrac Onneshananosatellite team. With a huge prize pool, the winning teams were rewarded with trophy-certificates and the competition will definitely help them to work even harder in their upcoming endeavours. The overall competition was made successful through a rigorous contribution of the members and the valuable financial sponsorship offered from two corporate organizations like Akash DTH. IEEE AESS BRACU SB believes that in the upcoming year, this competition will be more thrilling and electrifying that no one has ever seen before.
The Satellite Expedition Contest 2020is another competition like CanSat that had been made successful in the last year as well. It was organized by IEEE AESS BRACUSBC in collaboration with LaSSET and in partnership with UNICEF Bangladesh and UNICEF Global. The competition inspired undergraduate students to come up with nano-satellite mission ideas that can serve to the social goodwill in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It allowed them to re-link their engineering mind to address the social/community issues that can help better people’s lives. The bigger perspective of this competition was to help students to showcase and improve their skills on paper writing and carry out comprehensive research in the field of Satellite Communications. The contest envisions innovative ideas that can help people land on outer space equipped with a nano-satellite that can be useful for solving complex engineering problems. This competition was also made successful through voluntary contributions of the members and a hefty financial sponsorship funded by two corporate organizations like Akash DTH.
‘National CanSat Competition 2020’
A successful virtual competition organized by IEEE BRACU AESS SBC
For the second time, National CanSat Competition 2020was organized virtually in collaboration with the Laboratory of SpaceSystem Engineering & Technology(LaSSET) and in partnership with UNICEF Bangladesh and UNICEF Global.TheNational CanSat Competition 2020was full of exuberance for young enthusiasts as it was a gateway for them to showcase their latent talent and discover their inner potentials.
It was initiated from November 5, 2020, and ended on January 21, 2021. The competition was designed for college and undergraduate students who could participate from all over the country. 16 teams participated in the competition. The team registration criteria were online based. The competition had two phases–the preliminary phase and the final phase. In the preliminary phase, participants were guided to design and showcase a fully integrated 3D design/model of a typical CanSat.Those who were selected to the final phase, they had to deliver a presentation explaining their model. The competition indeed challenged the participators to show their precious skills in creating a 3D prototype of small-scale satellites mostly known as CanSat. For this competition, Raihana Shams Islam Antara and Md MojammelHaque Shourobh were the honourable judges.
