On July 21st, IEEE BRACU SB hosted a tour to Aarong Dairy Factory located in Gazipur. 18 students along with Lecturer Ms. Rakiba Rayhana and Assistant Professor Saifur Rahman Sabuj set out at 8:30 am from BRAC University. Upon reaching the factory, the attendees were given a basic overview of the work done in the factory, covering everything from the processing and pasteurizing of the milk to collecting the final outputs. Afterwards, the students were physically shown the different parts of the entire process. They were guided through the facility and shown the various equipment and types of machinery which were of great interest to the aspiring engineers.
When BRAC Dairy and Food Project started in 1998 it produced about 140,000 litres of milk every day. Fast forward to 2018, it has the capacity to produce 250,000 litres of milk per day, employing over 1500 employees. This makes BRAC Dairy and Food Project one of the largest BRAC enterprises. BRAC Dairy was also the first dairy company in Bangladesh to have received ISO 22000 Certification.
The tour ended at 5:30 pm and the students returned to BRAC University after a memorable day of fun, learning and greater understanding of the workings of a factory. Overall, it was another successful event organized by the IEEE BRACU Student Branch.
