The Power and Energy Society of Brac University in association with the IEEE Brac University Student Branch celebrated their very 1st PES day on 24th April. The Power and Energy Society of IEEE celebrates the PES day throughout the globe all-round the month of April, in that context and to make a mark on the world of IEEE, the PES SB of Brac University along with the IEEE SB of Brac University designed the day to make it more festive and memorable.
The day started with special speeches both from the IEEE chairperson and PES chairperson of Brac University. After that the distinguished guest of the day, who is the pioneer of IEEE BD section, also the Chairperson of IEEE PES BD section and also who is the Chairperson of EEE department of Brac University Professor Shahidul Islam Khan delivered his speech on the importance of PES day celebration and he also encouraged the students to participate more to make events like these a success. Following that another guest of the day the Registrar of Brac University Col. Foyzul Islam (Retd), delivered his honorable speech on PES day. During this session Prize giving ceremony of ICEPE-2019 Project Showcase was held as well and our honorable Chairperson Professor Shahidul Islam Khan and our other guest the Registrar of Brac University handed the prize over to the winners. After that the session ended by cutting the celebratory cake.
The next session included another special feature of the day which was the Fire Safety Training Session by the Polycable Company with the theme of “Fire Safety: Electrical Perspective”. Polycable came to Brac University in order to make students aware of fire safety and how one can make themselves safe once the fire breaks out. The session gave us idea about ordinary PVC coated wires and Zero halogen wires and later on they gave us actual fire demonstration on the two cables’ longevity and performance on fire, the Fire Session also had a very special speech from the managing director of Ploycable Mr. Zakir Hossain. The session inspired us to be more cautious while handling electrical equipment’s. Our honorable guest, the Chairperson of EEE department also emphasized on the knowledge of choosing the right electrical apparatus to lower down the fire breakage due to electrical causes.
The day also had multiple fun sessions which contained a technological movie which was a documentary on the life of Nikola Tesla, motivational video on life of Elon Musk and a quiz on basic electrical engineering which even had a prize giving session for the winners as well, riddle solving was part of the extra special activity. To conclude, the PES day celebration not only enlightened us with many details and important knowledge, but also gave us the opportunity to make a stand with the global PES Day celebration march.
