On April 22nd, 2025, the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter of BRAC University organized a seminar titled “Careers in Renewable Energy” as part of the very first national celebration of PES Day and IEEE Week in Bangladesh. This milestone towards bridging the gap between theoretical studies and practical applications in energy was made possible through active engagement of the BRAC University IEEE Student Branch.

The seminar was also honored by the presence of the guest dignitaries including Dr. Dave Dowland, Honourable Registrar of BRAC University; Professor Sorowar Hossain; Tashfin Mahmud; and Atib Oni, whose patronage and presence greatly extended the scope and reach of the event.

The keynote session was delivered by Engineer Jorifa Khatun, whose energetic and dynamic presentation brought forth the extensive variety of career prospects in the sector of renewable energy. She addressed key trends in the energy industry and emphasized the role of young engineers in bringing about a sustainable future. She supported her presentation with live demonstrations using an atlas and a turbine model, both of which she kindly left with the university department as an input to future academic endeavors.

Throughout the session, the students were brought to the ground realities of working in power plants, shifting needs of the power industry, and the insight required to thrive in this fast-changing field. The lecture was followed by an immensely interactive Q&A session, in which the participants could engage person-to-person with the speaker and clarify many technical as well as professional questions.

The seminar concluded with heartfelt closing remarks, where organizers extended their gratitude to the participants, speakers, and dedicated volunteers who made the event a success.

Bringing together individuals from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, the seminar managed to develop interest and motivation among students and encouraged the majority to new purpose and direction in their careers.

The event was a part of the ongoing initiatives by IEEE PES SBC to sensitize, educate, and innovate green energy solutions. The chapter intends to stage future events that continue to educate, motivate, and empower future generations of energy professionals.
