From April 15 to 23, 2025, BRAC University made history by becoming the first university in the world to host a full-fledged IEEE Week, a landmark initiative by the IEEE BRACU Student Branch. This week‑long celebration brought together students, academics, and professionals to explore the dynamic fields of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Science and Engineering through impactful sessions and interactive experiences.
The celebration began on April 15 with the event “Beyond CGPA: Career Growth & Development,” which emphasized the importance of practical skills, soft skill development, and lifelong learning over just academic scores. The event was inaugurated by BRACU Registrar Dr. David Dowland, and the launch of exclusive IEEE BRACU official merchandise added excitement and a strong sense of identity for participants.
From that day onward, IEEE Week offered a wide array of seminars, technical talks, and workshops from different IEEE chapters:
- The ComSoc Chapter hosted “Mind the Network: How Neurons Connect the World,” accompanied by a hands-on session on implementing neural networks for signal classification.
- The AESS chapter conducted “RF Sensing for Healthcare Applications,” bridging clinical care and spaceflight stress monitoring.
- The CS Chapter offered “Exploring the Quantum World,” where students explored concepts such as black holes and quantum information.
- The RAS chapter presented “Talking to Machines,” focusing on natural language processing and how it bridges the gap between humans and machines.
- And finally, the PES Chapter concluded the week with “Career Opportunities in Renewable Energy,” highlighting professional avenues in the sustainable energy sector.
The purpose of having back‑to‑back events like this was to give students a clear view of the emerging fields in engineering—by laying all of their options on the table, IEEE Week helped them compare paths side by side and choose the direction that best aligns with their passions and goals. Students gained insights into industry trends, real-world applications, and potential career paths, helping them connect academic knowledge with professional growth.
IEEE Week at BRACU was more than just a series of events; it was a groundbreaking platform that empowered students, encouraged exploration, and set a new global benchmark in student engagement and technical excellence.
