The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society BRAC University Student Branch Chapter recently organized an exciting two-day workshop titled “Dive into Underwater Robotics: Exploring the Depths with DuboTech” from November 13 to November 14, 2024. Held at BRAC University’s Lecture Theatre (9C-16T), the event saw enthusiastic participation from over 140 students, all eager to immerse themselves in the evolving world of underwater robotics.
The workshop was led by the company named DuboTech, a trailblazing underwater robotics startup founded by BRAC University alumni. DuboTech has recently gained national acclaim after securing BDT 5 million in pre-seed investment on Shark Tank Bangladesh, thanks to its revolutionary advancements in underwater propulsion systems, autonomous navigation, and AI-powered sensor technologies.

The first day of the workshop began with a session conducted by Sayantan Roy (Arko), CTO of DuboTech and Technical Advisor of BRACU Duburi. He provided a compelling overview of underwater robotics and shared inspiring stories from their participation in international competitions, including the prestigious Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge (SAUVC). His session offered invaluable insights into the technical challenges and achievements in underwater technology development.
On the second day, A.T.M. Masum Billah, Chief Robotics Officer of DuboTech and former team lead of Duburi 4.0, took the stage to discuss the advanced AI systems that power DuboTech’s robots. He explained how artificial intelligence enables autonomous decision-making and efficient navigation in underwater environments. Following this, Nayem Hossain Saikat, CEO of DuboTech and former team lead of Duburi 3.0, captivated the audience with his vision for entrepreneurship in the underwater robotics industry. Mr. Saikat shared ideas on building a sustainable business in this sector and highlighted the potential for startups to address pressing challenges in underwater exploration and technology.

The workshop concluded with a heartfelt address by Mir Tanzid Ahmed, Chair of IEEE RAS BRACU SBC, who expressed his gratitude to the participants and speakers. He also shared IEEE RAS’s vision for the future, emphasizing the importance of fostering innovation and collaboration within the university’s robotics community.
As part of the event, all registered participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their active involvement in the workshop. A special moment during the closing ceremony was the recognition of Shad Nur Mim Bidhu, the former Chair of IEEE RAS BRACU SBC, for her exemplary contributions to the chapter over the past two years. Her dedication and leadership have played a significant role in the society’s continued success.
This workshop offered students a unique opportunity to gain experience with cutting-edge underwater robotics technology while learning directly from industry leaders. By combining technical knowledge, real-world applications, and entrepreneurial insights, the event provided a comprehensive exploration of underwater robotics and inspired the next generation of innovators at BRAC University.
The success of this event underscores IEEE RAS BRACU SBC’s commitment to empowering students and bridging the gap between academia and industry, paving the way for future advancements in robotics and automation.
