IEEE Brac University Student Branch GBM 2024: Reflecting on Growth and Progress
The IEEE Brac University Student Branch is proud to have successfully organized its annual GBM of the 2024 calendar year. This year’s GBM was held on 19th September from 3:30 PM to 6PM in Brac University Lecture Theater. The annual meeting is held every year to celebrate the success of the previous year’s panelists and the growth of the IEEE Brac University Student Branch and its chapters throughout the year. Dr. David Dowland, the registrar of Brac University, honored this event by accepting the invitation as the chief guest. The General Body Meeting gathered an impressive amount of audience. Around (Insert number here) people participated in this annual event.
The meeting had two segments. The event began with our host welcoming the general members for their participation in the event and passed the stage to the IEEE BRACU SB Chair, Mohammad Aamir Kardar, who gave a brief overview of IEEE, its significance in the field of engineering, and its influence on our everyday technological lives. Also, he emphasized the benefits of the IEEE Spectrum and potential magazines in an engineering student’s life. Furthermore, he highlighted the benefits of IEEE memberships such as access to the impressive database of IEEE Xplore digital library and he also introduced the audience to the IEEE Brac University Student Branch websites and its social media handles.

Afterwards, the general members were introduced to the IEEE Brac University Student Branch and its Chapters, along with their respective advisors and panel members. After the brief introduction, the host requested the Founding Counselor of IEEE Brac University Student Branch, Professor Dr. A.K.M Abdul Malek Azad Sir, from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Brac University, to share his valuable experience with the audience. He started his speech by sharing the history of the IEEE Brac University Student Branch and how it was formed. Then he briefly stated all the achievements IEEE Brac University Student Branch and its chapters have accomplished in the last year, and mentioned the financial support IEEE Brac University Student Branch is getting from not only Brac University but also from the BSRM School of Engineering and IEEE international. Then he unveiled the 11th edition of the annual newsletter of the IEEE Brac University Student Branch and revealed the exciting news that IEEE Brac University Student Branch is working to add two more chapters to its branch soon. Following the counselor’s speech, the host invited the Chapter Advisors—Mr. Annajiat Alim Rasel Sir of the IEEE Computer Society Brac University Student Branch Chapter and Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman Sir of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Brac University Student Branch Chapter to share their insightful opinions and offer advice regarding their respective chapters. The Chapter Advisors then took the stage to discuss their expectations for their respective chapters for the upcoming year.

Finally, the chief guest was invited to come to the stage and share his valuable thoughts on the progress of the IEEE Brac University Student Branch and the 11th edition of its annual newsletter. Dr. David Dowland sir commended the IEEE Brac University Student Branch’s accomplishments and events, such as the humanitarian event project SPORSHO, while praising the inclusion of solidarity towards the people suffering in Gaza. In the final part of this segment, the chief guest was requested to present the certificates and crests to the previous year’s
executive panel members as a tribute to their contribution to IEEE Brac University Student Branch and its Chapters. Thus, the first segment of the event ended followed by a short refreshment break.
The second segment of the event was the continuation of the Main Body Chair’s brief introduction to the IEEE Student Branch and its Chapter, its advisors, and the panel members. The Chair of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Brac University Student Branch Chapter started the second part of the event and introduced the audience to its panel members and gave a brief explanation of what IEEE PES Brac University SBC is committed to providing and the benefits of joining it. Similarly, the chairs of the IEEE Computer Society (CS) Brac University Student Branch Chapter, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Brac University Student Branch Chapter, the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Brac University Student Branch Chapter, and IEEE Communication Society (COMSOC) Brac University Student Branch Chapter respectively gave a similar presentation where they introduced the audience to their panel members and gave an overview of what their chapter’s mission and vision are, the events they had successfully carried out and the events they planned to launch in the following year. Finally, the GBM 2024 came to an end with a Q&A session between the Main Body Chair and the general body members.
