The IEEE Communications Society Brac University Student Branch Chapter successfully conducted its inauguration ceremony on 7th June 2023. The event was a successful one as along with our chapter advisor – Raihana Shams Islam Antara, we were also graced with the presence of IEEE PES BracU SBC Advisor – Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan, IEEE CS BracU SBC Advisor – Annajiat Alim Rasel and IEEE AESS BracU SBC Advisor – Mr. Abdulla Hil Kafi. Furthermore, we were also honored that we had our Founder and Counselor of IEEE Brac University Student Branch – Professor Dr. AKM Abdul Malek Azad, Dean of BSRM School of Engineering – Professor Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury, Professor Dr. AHM Abdur Rahim and Assistant Professor Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj among us too. However, due to some unavoidable circumstances, the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony, Professor Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Chair of IEEE ComSoc BD Chapter, was unable to join us in-person. Upon deliberation the online option was opted and we are grateful that He and Professor Dr. Lutfa Akter, Professor of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) took the effort to join us online on that special day. The inauguration ceremony centered on announcing the official beginning of the IEEE Communication Society Brac University Student branch.
In this age of science and technology, considering life without any communication device is completely horrendous. Communication technologies are so popular that most of the highest-grossing industries are based on this communication tech. IEEE Communication Society is one of the most significant societies that are completely dedicated to bringing development in this branch of technology. It has been fostering the creation and sharing of information among the global technical community since its inception. It promotes technical advancement and continuously works on technological innovation. It unites all the technologists, educators, scientists, and learners who are involved in bringing technological uprising in this section. As a part of this technical insurgence, IEEE Brac University Communication Society Student Branch Chapter came into being to promote and connect the university’s students to the global network. IEEE Brac University Brac University Student branch is one of the most distinguished chapters in region-10 and as the newest branch of this respected Student Branch, the IEEE Communication Society Brac University Student Branch is concerned with alleviating its prestige and keeping up the good work to bring technical revolution.
The inauguration ceremony began at 3:00 pm with around 30 participants among which we had the privilege of having our esteemed ComSoc alums with us too. The session began with a short documentary which highlighted the journey and accomplishments of IEEE BRACU SB since 2008 followed by short speeches from the academic counselor, the Dean, the chapter advisor and the faculties regarding the importance of communications engineering and the main objective behind opening this new chapter. The event commenced with a speech from the IEEE Brac University Student Branch Founder and Counselor Professor Dr. AKM Abdul Malek Azad. He shared a few words with the presented audience mentioning the reason for bringing into the IEEE Brac University Communication Society Student Branch which was to revive the ECE Department in Brac University. Following that, Professor Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder also shared a few words with us about this ComSoc chapter and congratulated us for taking this initiative.
In addition to that, Assistant Professor Dr. Saifur Rahman Sabuj also presented the current progression of the communication industry to demonstrate how much it has evolved over the years. Professor Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury, Dean of BSRM School of Engineering gave a short speech regarding the importance of communication. He put emphasis on the fact that nations need smart engineers instead of bookish engineers to expand this technical field of communication. Along with him our chapter advisor also contributed in explaining the benefits of joining the Comsoc chapter and our main mission and vision for this chapter.
Last, but not the least, a small cake-cutting ceremony took place to mark the beginning of the journey of this new chapter, following which souvenirs were gifted to the faculties and the attendees. The event then finally drew to a close with a thank-you address from the presenter, followed by a group photo.
